MOULTRIE, Ga. — Moultrie Mary Kay Director Chrissie Forehand and her unit members have been busy in 2016 supporting Serenity House, Colquitt County’s domestic violence shelter.  

After attending the Annual Mary Kay seminar held every year in Dallas, Texas, Forehand learned more about The Mary    Kay Foundation’s support for domestic violence    shelters.  When she returned, she asked her team members if they would join her in actively supporting Serenity House in 2016.  

One of the first things they did was to invite Shannon Morgan, the director of Serenity House, to come speak at their one of their bi-weekly meetings to share what Serenity House is and what their needs are.  Since then, the ladies in this unit have brought items to every meeting that are needed for the residents of Serenity House.  

Many times throughout the year, as emergency needs arose at Serenity House, the unit members would locate or buy whatever was needed.  For example, at one point this year, a resident needed baby items, baby cribs, playpens, toddler bed, etc.  The Mary Kay Unit had a “baby shower” and supplied everything that was needed including some extra items as well.

These ladies also got together and gave a Mother’s Day Pampering Party to residents of the shelter on Mother’s Day where the ladies received pampering and makeovers. The moms were also given gift bags filled with gifts and products to take with them.

Recently, Forehand and her team members gave the residents a Christmas party, complete with a visit from Santa (special thanks to Pastor Carl Felts of Hopewell Baptist Church) and presents for the moms and children.  Over the past year, this Mary Kay unit donated approximately $1,500 worth of gifts and toys to these residents.  

Forehand, one of the directors who wrote a letter to the Mary Kay Foundation on behalf of Serenity House, said that she and the women in her unit were thrilled and proud when they learned that Serenity House had been awarded a $20,000 grant.

Among the ladies who played an active part in the yearly projects were Myrna Bennett, Maria Bennett, Sandra Edwards, Jennifer Harris, Heather Robinson, Gail Sparkman, and Lorna Quinn.

“The Serenity House and the Mary Kay Consultants of Moultrie will forever be connected and we believe that 2017 is going to be a great year for the Serenity House,” Forehand said.
