MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — High school basketball season is really gearing up around Milledgeville and the public is invited to whet its hoops appetite Saturday at the 15th installment of GMC Prep’s Old Capital Challenge Classic.

GMC Prep’s junior varsity boys will hold an intersquad scrimmage beginning at 1 p.m. to hold the crowd over until the varsity Lady Dogs take the floor against Stratford at 2:30 p.m. The varsity boys’ teams of GMC Prep and Stratford will provide the finale for the day as they are scheduled to compete at 4 p.m.

“We really call it a family day,” said GMC Prep varsity boys’ coach James Lunsford. “It’s a day that all of our teams get to play and all the parents work together for it. We have a hospitality room and they get to watch their kids play. It’s something we’ve done – really this is the 15th year. We’ve put it together like this because our middle school plays, our junior varsity plays, and our boys and girls varsity teams play. That’s very important.”

Lunsford also acts as the director for the Old Capital Challenge. Admission for the day’s activities is $7.

Both GMC Prep varsity teams will be looking for their first win on the young season. The boys dropped a Nov. 29 meeting with Stratford by a final score of 63-52 while the girls fell 65-29.
