MOULTRIE — A Moultrie convenience store was robbed early Sunday morning by a thief who jumped over the counter and helped himself to money from the business’ cash register.
Police say the man entered the 505 Veterans Parkway S. Murphy Oil USA store at some time after 3 a.m. and approached a store employee.
“He approached the counter as if he was going to purchase something,” Moultrie Police Department Inv. Tonero Bender said. “When the clerk opened the register, he jumped over the counter and snatched an undetermined amount of currency from the cash register.”
Bender said that no one was injured during the incident.
After taking the money the man walked out, got into a dark-colored, older-model passenger car and left.
Police described the suspect as a black male wearing a green shirt and white hat.

In a similar incident, at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday a shoplifter made off with two cartons of cigarettes from the 1350 Veterans Parkway N. Chevron convenience store.
According to police, the man asked for the cigarettes, and when the employee placed them on the counter he grabbed them and ran out. He then got into a car and drove away.
