MOULTRIE — A Colquitt County man faces drug and traffic charges in connection with a Nov. 30 traffic stop during which police found suspected methamphetamine. Police arrested Donnie Ray Herndon after making the stop at about 6:35 p.m. in the 300 block of Funston-Sale City Road.

“We received information related to drugs (being) in the vehicle,” said Inv. Jerome Burgess, an agent with the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Team.

“A deputy got behind the vehicle and the tag came back expired.” The officer who made the traffic stop saw the driver throw something out of the window just before he brought the car to a final stop, Burgess said.

The officer found a green Crown Royal whiskey bag in the area where the thrown object landed, Burgess said. “Inside the bag was a quantity of meth and utensils for using meth,” he said. “Another quantity of meth was found on his person.”

A passenger in the car confirmed that the Crown Royal bag was the object thrown from the vehicle. In all police recovered about a gram of suspected methamphetamine.

Police charged Herndon, 29, 223 Bonnie Tuk Road, with three felonies: tampering with evidence, abandoning dangerous drugs or controlled substances and possession of methamphetamine. He also was charged with misdemeanor and traffic charges including possession of drug-related objects, driving while license suspended and suspended tag.
