MOULTRIE, Ga. — A car stolen in Iowa was tracked down in Norman Park on Tuesday but the suspected thief thwarted one attempt to recover it by driving to another residence, where the car was found abandoned.

Barbara Kelly, of Dubuque, Iowa, told police that she checked a residence in the 200 block of Yogi Bear Road at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday searching for the stolen 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. Kelly found the car there, but when the suspect asked to get her belongings out before Kelly took it she instead drove away in the car.

Tina Marie Kennicker, also of Dubuque, reported the car stolen on Sept. 17 and said she suspected a relative who lives in Norman Park.

At about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Kennicker called police to report that the car had been left at the end of the driveway at her niece Heather Gay’s residence in the 900 block of Wilbur Murphy Road.

Gay told police that she noticed the car there earlier while she was leaving her residence. She was familiar with the theft and notified Kennicker that the car was there.

Kennicker asked police to leave the Pontiac at Gay’s residence until a relative can retrieve it.

The officer notified police in Dubuque that the car had been recovered.
