TIFTON, Ga. — On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the University of Georgia Tifton Campus and the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences will host Southwest showCAES 2016 at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center at 5:30 p.m.
Breanna Coursey, admissions counselor at UGA Tifton, said the showCAES event will be a great way for prospective high school and college students and parents to learn about admission to UGA and, more specifically, the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

“[showCAES] is primarily an event to showcase our college and the opportunities that students can have within the college,” Coursey said. “We have a presentation from [the] UGA admissions [office], so if students are interested in UGA as a whole and learning more about the admission process, they can come and ask questions.”
Parents of students are also encouraged to come. Coursey said there will be parts of the event geared specifically toward parents, including financial aid.
“We have someone from the Georgia Student Finance Commission who comes and talks about financial aid,” Coursey said. “A lot of parents and students have questions about that, so it’s really helpful to get some insight as these students are making their college decisions.”
Coursey said there will be breakout sessions for high school students, and college students looking to transfer to UGA.
Faculty and staff from all departments of the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences will have booths set up at the event to provide students with information specific to each department. Current students will be available to provide their perspective to those attending.
Coursey said that many students don’t know that a student can go to UGA and stay in Tifton, or they at least don’t know all that UGA Tifton has to offer.

“It’s kind of like a career fair because a lot of students don’t realize the opportunities that are available at the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences,” Coursey said. “We’re just trying to emphasize all of the opportunities that there are.”
Southwest showCAES is one UGA Tifton’s largest recruiting events of the year, and about 200 people are expected to come.
The event is free, but there will also be a meal served, so participants are asked to pre-register online.
