Forty-six new GMC cadets received scholarships with benefits up to $120,000 on Tuesday. The scholarship will cover the students' two years at GMC as well as the remaining two years that follow on a four-year college ROTC program.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Georgia Military College recently awarded Army ROTC scholarships to 46 cadets looking to start their military careers here in Milledgeville.

Brig. Gen. Curt Rauhut, GMC executive vice president, made a check presentation to the new cadets Tuesday morning outside of the Old Capitol Building on campus.

The scholarship offers benefit up to $120,000, which will cover all costs for the students’ first two years of school at GMC with the remainder to be used at a four-year college Army ROTC program.

“Army ROTC scholarships will pay for tuition, fees and books,” said Brian Hamilton, Georgia Military College’s Recruiting, Scholarship Enrollment and Operations Officer in a press release from the school. “Georgia Military College pays for their room and board, so there’s no cost to the cadets at all. Also, when they leave here to go get their bachelor’s degree, the Educational Assistance Program (EAP) will pay for tuition, fees, books or room and board.”

Hamilton added that the number of scholarships GMC receives for cadets fluctuates each year based on the Army’s needs.

A cadet has a few requirements to meet in order to be eligible for the scholarship. He or she must be deemed medically qualified and physically fit to qualify. A minimum 2.5 GPA and score at least a 920 on the SAT or a 19 on the ACT is also required.

The new cadets can be seen marching around the GMC campus learning the Army basics as they take part in a mini-camp before leaving Thursday, June 23 for Fort Knox, Ky. for a month-long Cadet Initial Entry Training.
