MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – MA scheduled preliminary hearing for a Milledgeville man accused of assaulting two men in a drive-by shooting last July didn’t happen as planned Wednesday morning.
Vandrick Harden, who has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and who had sought a preliminary hearing, didn’t attend the hearing nor did his defense attorney Calvin McMullen.
The hearing, which had been arranged last Friday with the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, was to have been heard by Baldwin County Chief Magistrate Shane Geeter.
Assistant District Attorney Leonard D. Myers and Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Greg See were present and ready for the hearing, but since Harden and his attorney weren’t there, Geeter granted the defense attorney a continuance.
Since his arrest a few days ago, Harden has been jailed without bond at the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center.
As of presstime Wednesday afternoon, the hearing had not been rescheduled.
Detective See, who charged Harden with the crimes, was expected to have been the only witness to testify.
One of the victims in the drive-by shooting was Eric Warren, whose girlfriend, Tonya Renae Massey, was recently shot to death at her mobile home off Lee Street. Authorities have said that Warren — and not his girlfriend — was the target of the shooting.
Local and state authorities named Harden a suspect in last year’s drive-by shooting involving Warren while investigating the Massey homicide case.
Sheriff’s office detectives and agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Region 6 Office in Milledgeville are still at work attempting to solve the murder case.
