The project, awarded to The Scruggs Co. of Hahira, is valued at $2 million.

Statewide the DOT awarded 27 contracts for construction projects totaling more than $246.5 million. These projects were advertised for bids in April and awarded on May 6. The awards reflect the largest monthly contract investment since 2006.

In the southwest district, the six resurfacing projects add up to $22.8 million. Other than Highway 37, they include:

• Brooks County, 12 miles on state Route 333 from the Florida state line to U.S. 84/SR 38; $2.3 million contract awarded to The Scruggs Co.

• Calhoun and Early counties, 12.2 miles on SR 45 from north of Lakeside Drive in Early County to south of SR 37 in Calhoun County; $2.4 million contract awarded to Oxford Construction Co. of Albany.

• Early County, 0.734 miles on SR 273 from the SR 273 Spur to west of SR 370; $798,000 contract awarded to Oxford Construction Co.

• Atkinson and Berrien counties, 18.7 miles on U.S. 82/SR 520 from the Tift County line in Berrien County to Deerfield Road in Atkinson County; $6.8 million contract awarded to The Scruggs Co.

• Thomas County, 21.3 miles on U.S. 19/SR 3 from south of Woodruff Farm Road to the Mitchell County line; $8.3 million contract awarded to The Scruggs Co.

The DOT did not say when work would begin, but scheduled completion date for all resurfacing projects is March 31, 2017.

Another $3.9 million road project aims to enhance driver safety in sharp curves by applying a high-friction, skid-resistant overlay to roadway surfaces. The locations are on 16 state routes in Baker, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brooks, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Decatur, Grady, Irwin, Mitchell, Quitman, Terrell, Thomas, Wilcox and Worth counties. The completion date is July 31, 2017.

April awards also include the $1.3 million rehabilitation of the U.S. 27/SR 1 bridge over the Flint River and CSX Railroad in Decatur County. The completion date is March 31, 2017.
