MOULTRIE, Ga. — A youngster suspected of throwing eggs and rocks at an Ellenton church has been forgiven — at least by church members.
After calling police about the damage at Ellenton Baptist Church, the pastor, James Smith, said he was turning the other cheek in this instance.
Smith reported that a 10-year-old had thrown the eggs and mud on the 115 Berrien Ave. house of worship. Rocks were used to break two windows and a light bulb at the back door.
Smith did not wish to press charges, but he did want to ensure it does not happen again, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office reports said.
The deputy spoke with the boy, who denied doing the damage to the church. The deputy then explained possible consequences of his actions if he is the person who actually threw the objects.
Police did not file charges and left the boy with a relative. The crime of vandalizing a place of worship is a felony, the report said.
