In order to cast ballots in the competitive races for sheriff and two county commission districts, county voters and those in Districts 2 and 4 must choose a Republican ballot. There are no contested local elections on the Democratic ticket.

The Republican candidates for sheriff are: Mike Boyd, a retired law enforcement officer; Lt. Rod Howell, chief jailer with the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office; and Edwin Sealy, general manager of B&S Concrete Services Inc. and a former police officer. Sheriff Al Whittington will not seek re-election, but instead is running for a commission seat.

The winner among the three Republican candidates will face Roger Lindsay, a retired Moultrie Police Department officer, in November.

In the District 2 commission contest to replace retiring Commissioner Winfred Giddens the candidates are farmer Chris Hunnicutt and mechanic Stephen “Bud” Wilkes. The winner of that contest will face Democrat Ronald McMullen in November.

Whittington’s opponent in the District 4 commission race to replace the retiring Donna Herndon is Brab Young. No Democrat qualified, so the winner of the Republican primary will take office in January.

None of the other officials up for election face opposition in the primary or in the general election in the fall.
