Have coffee with the cops

MOULTRIE — Most contacts between law enforcement officers and the public happen during emergencies or other emotional situations. An event this weekend hopes to help the two come together on more neutral ground. Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. The Moultrie Police Department plans its first such coffee 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, April 29, at McDonald’s, 506 First Ave. S.E.
Everyone in the community is invited to join officers in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee.
“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” said Police Chief Frank Lang. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”
