Norman Park man dies after ATV flips

NORMAN PARK — A Norman Park man died on Saturday when the four-wheeler he was driving flipped as he tried to stop suddenly in grass and it landed on top of him.
Juan Hernandez, 41, was declared dead at the scene of the accident at 1090 R.L. Norman Road in the Norman Park area, according to the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office.

Hernandez was riding at about 7 p.m. on an Arctic Cat 4×4 when he tried to stop in the grass as he approached the end of the driveway, a witnesses told police.
“They were just enjoying an afternoon riding the ATV and it flipped on him,” Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock said. “In the flipping of it, it landed on his head.”
The death was due to traumatic head injury, he said, and is listed as accidental. No autopsy was required.
After the accident, Hernandez had a pulse and was breathing, sheriff’s reports said. Medical personnel with Colquitt Regional Medical Center and a medical airlift team tried to stabilize him for transport to a hospital, but he died shortly afterwards at around 8 p.m.
