VALDOSTA — A Valdosta dentist has been indicted in federal court on charges of defrauding the Georgia Medicaid Program, according to court documents.
In an indictment filed Wednesday, Dr. Stanley B. Marable was accused of 12 counts of health care fraud. The counts cover incidents from Jan. 1, 2011, through April 30, 2013, according to court documents.
Dentists seeking reimbursement under the Medicaid program must submit claims using Current Dental Terminology, or CDT, codes, according to the indictment. Marable is accused of using code D7240, the highest reimbursing extraction code, for “removal of impacted tooth — completely bony” when he did not perform that procedure on the date billed for by his practice, the indictment says.
He “caused claims to be submitted … on numerous occasions for recipients who did not have any teeth extracted on the date for which his practice billed. In some situations, the recipient was not even present on the date for which the defendant billed,” according to the indictment.
On other occasions, Marable submitted claims for completely bony tooth exactions when only less invasive dental procedures were performed, the indictment says.
The amount paid for the procedures was $74,243.50, according to the indictment.
