Middle school Packers win conference golf title

MOULTRIE — Tanner Brown’s 68 was good enough to earn the low medalist trophy and help give the Colquitt County middle school boys golf the conference championship on Thursday at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta.

The middle school Lady Packers finished second in the girls conference tournament, also played at Kinderlou.

The Colquitt County boys shot 333 and beat Tift County by just a stroke.

Coffee was  third with a 345 in the eight-team field.

Hahira was fourth with a 382; Pine Grove was fifth at 387; Lowndes was sixth at 391; Valdosta was seventh at 395; and Cook was eight with a 491.

Tanner Brown and Payne Elkins each shot 68 and played an extra hole to determine the low medalist.

Brown had a birdie. Elkins managed just a par.

“It went right down to the wire,” said Colquitt County middle school boys golf coach Jack Hines “You never know when one shot is going to make the difference.”

The middle school Packers also counted an 82 from Tucker Brown; a 91 from Tyler Key; and a 92 from Chase Blanton.

Caleb Yarbrough had a 93 and Marshall McCranie shot 102.

Brown also was the low medalist in helping Colquitt County win the Baby Packer Invitational held Monday at Sunset Country Club.

The middle school Lady Packers shot a 207 and finished five shots behind conference champion Valdosta Middle School, which shot a 202. Valdosta’s Reese Adams was the low medalist with an 82.

Cate Tyler shot 103 and Chloe Howell had a 104 for Colquitt County’s 207. Madison Willis shot 82.
