MOULTRIE — James “Sonny Boy” Roscoe Cain Jr., 84, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at his residence.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Mother Easter Baptist Church where the Rev. Freddie Castle is pastor and will officiate, assisted by Minister Kylie Johnson. Pastor David Oaks will be eulogist. Interment will follow in the Strong Memorial Gardens. Fred Jones, Charles Todd, Jordan Bridges, Dale Bridges, Thomas Kinsey and Lewis Balkcom will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Cain was born in Moultrie, Ga., on April 30, 1931, to the late James Roscoe Cain Sr. and the late Irene Cain nee Bridges. He was the first born and the beloved first of his maternal grandparents, the late John Bridges and the late Eva Bridges nee Hancock. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Louse Cain nee Booth; his parents; and two sons, Bruce Eric Cain and Carl Michael Cain.
Mr. Cain worked for the City of Moultrie Parks and Recreation Department for 16 years as pool manager and aquatics coordinator at the Northwest Moultrie pool. He was also the owner and operator of Cain’s Game Room. According to Recreation Director Terry Peek, “Jim was more than an employee, he was a friend. When people go to the pool, they expected to see him.”
Surviving to cherish his memory are his seven daughters, Irene Patricia Cain, Shelly Darcel nee Holland, and Candice L. Cain, all of Annapolis, Md., Yvonne Louise Cain of San Diego, Calif., Yvette Leanne Cain of Fayetteville, N.C., Amy Cain of Baltimore, Md., and Fasundra Leshay Cain of Moultrie; two sons, Keith Allen Cain (Tessa Cain nee Dennis) and Derek Antonio Cain of Annapolis, Md.; his only sibling, sister Charity Grace Scott nee Cain of New York, N.Y.; brother-in-law, James Snowden; and two sisters-in-laws, Cynthia Snowden Davis and Lois Snowden Harris. Mr. Cain also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, neighbors and friends.
The family will receive visitors Friday, Feb. 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Luke Strong And Son Mortuary Chapel.
