Man builds fire on bike trail

Enjoying a beer while sitting next to a fire is usually not an out-of-the ordinary activity for late December, but it becomes so when it’s after midnight and the blaze is on the city-owned fitness trail.
That’s the situation police found at about 12:05 a.m. Sunday on the trail near Sunset Country Club in the 2700 block of South Main Street.
A Colquitt County Sheriff’s deputy notified Moultrie police of seeing a fire on the trail and finding Randy Eugene Wise there. Wise reportedly put the fire out after the deputy approached him.
Wise told officers that he had the fire to keep warm, even though he had a heavy jacket with him that he was not wearing, police said. They found a nearly empty bottle of malt liquor laying next to the fire.
Police charged Wise, 50, 707-D Sixth St. N.W., with bonfire prohibited, hours of use for city park and vagrancy.
In an unrelated arrest in which the use of a substance may have played a role, police charged Crystal Diane Murillo, 27, with disorderly conduct.
Officers were called at about 10 p.m. Monday to Moultrie Inn, 1704 First Ave. S.E., to what police said was the second call in as many days involving Murillo trespassing on the property. When police arrived Murillo was in the roadway arguing with motel employees.
When an officer told her to leave, police said, Murillo began dancing in the street and mumbling nonsensically. She crossed the street but came back and approached an officer to tell him that she sold methamphetamine and had some of it in her bra.
At that point police arrested Murillo on the disorderly conduct charge. At Colquitt County Jail a female employee found a “crystal-like substance” when she searched Murillo, police said. They are investigating whether the substance is indeed methamphetamine.
