Tip leads to burglary, drug charges

A tip that led police to two burglary thefts also helped them find suspected methamphetamine and make an additional two arrests on drug charges.
The information brought police to what they described as a “FEMA trailer” at 100 Cherry Ave. that is the home of Matthew David Adams and Leah Mae Kilgore.
“We had a tip from a confidential informant that two subjects who were wanted were at that residence,” Colquitt County Sheriff’s Inv. Jerome Burgess said.
Officers found Jerome McMurphy and Jennifer Amanda Pope at the residence as the informant related to them, Burgess said. They are accused in the theft of antiques and memorabilia valued at more than $10,000, including a boxing glove signed by Muhammad Ali and a baseball with Hank Aaron’s signature, from storage buildings in the 200 block of Wilder Road.
The owner, William Smith, who had moved to Florida, discovered the theft on Nov. 13 when he came to Moultrie to pick up some of the property. Other stolen goods included antique signs, a cast iron stove and sausage grinder, and a Christmas tree.
Deputies arrested Deborah Ann Blackburn, 57, on Nov. 18 after searching her 892 Cook Road Residence, where police said they found all of the stolen items. She was arrested then on a charge of burglary and two counts each of stolen property and theft by deception.
In addition to allegedly taking part in the theft, Blackburn allegedly sold some of the property at Allen’s Antiques in Moultrie, Sheriff’s Inv. Austin Cannon said.
McMurphy, 33, and Pope, 32, both of 108 Jonathan Road, were each charged Wednesday with burglary. Pope also was charged with entering an automobile with intent of felony.
After the two were taken into custody, Burgess said, officers asked for permission to look inside the residence for additional people.
“We were speaking with Kilgore,” he said. “She gave us consent to go inside. We noticed some things that led us to believe there may be some narcotics involved.”
When officers searched further they found about four or five grams of suspected methamphetamine as well as objects thought to be used for snorting the drug and hypodermic needles, he said.
Adams, 40, and Kilgore, 31, were each charged Tuesday with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug-related objects.
