MOULTRIE — Recent violent incidents in Moultrie included a robber armed with a sawed-off weapon and a teen struck by a gunshot.
Three males were involved Wednesday in an attempted robbery at Bob & Ann’s Country Corner, Moultrie police said. Only the one armed with a gun entered the 1221 Highway 133 South convenience store at about 10:40 p.m.
“One individual enters the store, one stays at the door and one stays outside,” Moultrie Police Department Inv. William Baillargeon said. “He pulls out what appears to be a sawed-off shotgun or rifle.”
As he approached the counter the employee at the cash register backed away from the gunman, who pressed buttons of the register trying to open it.
However, before he could accomplish that one of his accomplices ducked inside and spoke with him briefly, Baillargeon said. Then all three ran from the store. He did not know whether they had a car waiting or ran into the neighborhood.
“Clearly the intention was robbery,” Baillargeon said.
No one was injured during the incident. The three involved face charges of aggravated assault.
At about 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday police were called to Colquitt Regional Medical Center where a 14-year-old boy had arrived with a gunshot wound.
The teenager told police that he was standing in the yard of his 518 First Ave. S.W. residence when he heard a shot and realized he had been struck by a bullet.
The teen-ager told police that he was talking to his stepfather at the time. The stepfather took him to the hospital in a car.
The victim was later released from the hospital, police said.
