Y gymnasts win three banners at Thomasville meet

MOULTRIE — The Moultrie YMCA gymnastics team started off the year at the Tumblin’ in the Roses Invitational at the Thomasville YMCA last Saturday.

“Our teams were ready, confident and excited about performing new levels,” Said Coach Pat Murphy. “We took levels 2-5 and scored 24 nines, broke three MG records and placed first in the team divisions in levels 2, 3, and 4.

“What a great start to the compulsory season.”

The MG parents club will host the Sunbelt Shindig meet on Saturday at the Moultrie YMCA.

The level 2 team Moultrie Y started out the day finishing first over the second-place Thomasville Y and third-place was Brunswick gymnastics.

Audrey Bazal led the team with her personal record breaking all around on 36.425 in the SR B age group to place first.

Bazal placed first on vault, 9.35, bars 9.35 and floor 9.2 plus third on beam 8.525.

All of her events were personal bests and she counted for our team score.

Ellie Ladson was in the same age group scoring her personal best on vault 9.15 for third place, floor 8.575 for seventh and AA 34.7 for third place.

Ladson counted for team score on vault and bars, she placed second with an 8.95.

Ashley Strange a SRB counted for team score on beam with an 8.625 for second place and she earned personal best on bars, 8.6 and floor, 8.925 for third place.

In the same age group was Nicole Swartzentruber who placed third on beam, 8.525 which help the team score and on floor, 8.6,5 both personal bests.

SR A group Kenlee Dalton led the group with an AA of 34.825, her best, winning the gold medal. Dalton also won first-place on bars, 8.85 and floor 9.375 her highest scores at this level. She placed second on beam with an 8.2.

In the same age group came first-time competitor Ashley Almond earned a second place on bars, 8.45 and floor, 8.9 and third AA with a 34.45.

It was also the first meet for Kaliegh Allen in that age group and she finished third on vault, 8.95 and bars, 8.35 finishing with a 33.8.

JR A’s top finisher was Jewel Hart, breaking all her event records.

Hart won the gold medal on AA with a 34.825 beam 8.425 and floor, 8.95, counting for the team score. She placed second on bars, 8.85 and third on vault, 8.6.

Newcomer Khalonee Bender in the JR A placed first on bars helping the team score, 8.9 second on vault, 8.925 and AA 34.6 and third on beam, 8.25.

Savana Mackie placed first on vault, 9.15, second on floor, 8.825, and third AA with a 34.325.

Ava Fields earned 2 personal bests on bars, 7.85 and third on beam 8.25.

Anna Kate Hightower led the JR B age group with a 34.95 AA to win the gold medal and also on bars, 8.75. Hightower placed second on vault, 8.85, beam, 8.5 and floor, 8.85.

Along with her, Ansley Key won first place on vault, 9.15 and AA 34.175 fourth both personal bests.

The USA level 3 team earned a 109.05 for first place in front of the Valdosta YMCA, which had a 103.225.

Moultrie’s top gymnast in the SR B division was Madison Cooper, winning a gold medal AA with a 36.475 and this was her meet in this level.

She also won gold medals on vault, 9.725 beam, 8.825 and floor 9.4 which counted for team scores.

Madison broke the MG record level 3 on the vault.

“Her body line was excellent and literally went over my head. She is one of the strongest vaulters I have ever coached,” said coach Wendy Scites.

Jaylee Williams is that age group placed third on the bars, 8.5 and AA 34.425.Williams had a personal best on the floor, 8.65.

First-timer at level 3 Gabby Smith is the same age group counted for team score on the vault and she placed second on vault, 9.25 and floor, 9.0.

Becca Clayton in the youngest age group finished on top earning a gold medal on AA with a 34.9. Her first meet at this level she placed first on vault, 9.2 team score, bars, 8.9 and floor, 8.6. Clayton placed third on beam with an 8.3.

In the JR A Emily Lampman earned the gold medal on beam, 8.25. Lampman placed second on bars, 8.6 and AA 34.05.

First-timer in the same age group, Lathan Brown won the gold medal on beam, 8.25. Brown also placed third on bars, 8.25 floor, 8.45 and AA 33.65.

JR A first meet for Julianne Thompson scored a 32.05 AA 5th place and her highest score was on vault, 8.625.

Morganie Leroux led the JR B age group winning the gold medal AA with a 35.125 and 9.025 on the floor, personal best scores. Leroux placed second on all of the other events and counted for team score on the vault, 9.2 bars, 8.6 and personal best on the beam, 8.3.

Ellery McBryde in the JR B won the gold medal on beam with an 8.45. McBryde placed second on floor, 8.5 and AA 33.8. She placed third on vault, 9.15.

In the SR A division, Brooklyn James led the team with her highest AA earning the gold medal with a 36.2. James counted for team score on these 3 events and they were her personal best scores, bars, 9.1 beam, 8.75 and floor, 9.3 all for a gold medal. She placed third on vault, 9.05.

Teammate Eva Kirbo won the silver medal AA with a 35.25 and on the bars, 9.025both her personal bests. Kirbo placed second on the vault, 9.1 beam, 8.55 and third on floor, 8.575.

The USA level 4 also won first place scoring a 106.775, second place went to the Thomasville Y.

Gracie White led the team in the SR B group winning the gold medal on every event. She had personal best bars, beam and AA. White scored on vault, 8.4, bars, 8.85, beam 9.05 and floor, 9.0. She counted for team score bars, beam and floor.

It was the first meet for Jacey Williams in the SR B and she won a bronze medal AA by scoring a 31.475. Williams finished strong earning 3 second places on bars, 8.1, beam 8.775 and floor, 8.65.

In the SR A, Jaiden Lane won the gold medal on vault, 8.5 bars, 9.2 her best floor 8.875 and her best AA score of 35.025. This is the second time Jaiden earned a 35 AA or higher so she will be promoted to level 5. Lane placed second on beam with a 8.45.

Teammate Bethany Holman in the SR A won a gold medal on beam, 8.65. Holman placed second on vault, 8.3and AA 34.2 her personal best. She also placed third on bars, 8.7 her highest score.

Mackenzie Smith in that age group earned 2 third places on beam, 8.4 and floor, 8.625.

First-time competitor Caylee Harrison in the same group earned a bronze medal for her AA of 33.4. She also placed second on floor with an 8.7.

Tatum Salter led the JR A division by earning a silver medal AA with the score of 32.875. This was her first meet in her new level and she placed first on bars, 7.95, second on beam, 8.8 floor, 8.575 and third on vault, 8.35.

Right behind her was Madison Faircloth winning a bronze medal in the AA with a score of 32.2. Also Faircloth’s first meet, she placed second on vault, 8.9 and bars, 7.25 plus third on floor 8.25.

The JR B division was led by Brandalyn Fitz winning the gold medal for her AA with a 34.65 her personal best. She had another best on floor, 8.95 scored a 8.55 on bars and 9.0 on beam all for first place.

Her beam and floor counted toward our team score.

Same group, Hayley Hamm earned a gold medal on the vault, 8.9 a personal best score for her.

Hamm won the silver medals on AA with a 34.225, beam, 8.8 and floor, 8.625.

Next in that group was Marlie Daniels, earning her bronze medal in the AA with a 33.4 her level’s best score.

Daniels placed second on bars, 8.3 and third on vault, 8.55 both her best.

“I was happy with the results of our first meet in this level. Most of the girls who competed last year set their goals and broke their AA records while new gymnasts competed well thinking about what they have practiced,” said coach Bria Blakely

Seaven Shorter competed for the first time in USA level 5 in the SR A age group.

She won a gold medal on all events and broke two MG records on beam and all around.

Shorter also scored high enough to be promoted to level 6.

Her scores were vault, 8.8, bars, 8.4 beam, 8.725, floor, 8.45 and AA 34.375.
