ELLENTON – “Can you believe it? An 83 year old woman being cast in a movie!” Corene Williams, of Ellenton, exclaimed as she talked about her upcoming role as a featured extra in “Keeping Up with the Joneses”, starring John Hamm, Zach Galifianakis, and Isla Fisher.

When Williams’ son, Hank Williams, called to let her know the casting agency he was involved with was looking for a woman in her 80’s and if she wanted to audition for the part, her response was “Yeah, I guess so.”

Little did she know that after having had her photos sent to the casting agency that she would soon be in Atlanta, with barely a days notice, to meet with the agency.

What seemed at first as just a slim possibility, turned into eleven days of filming in Atlanta. Williams isn’t allowed to say much about the movie, having signed a contract stating that she wouldn’t give away the plot. However, she was able to explain her part in the movie and a few other experiences of filming with some of today’s most influential actors.

“It’s a lot of hurry up and wait,” she explained, “but it was so much fun seeing how they film a movie.”

Williams ended up being filmed for several scenes including a scene with her son, but the majority of her scenes were done with an elderly gentleman.

“At first we were called the nosey couple, sitting on our porch watching people. Then they started calling us the old couple,” Williams laughed.

She described how well the staff on the movie set took care of her, at one point having a staff member walk beside her with an umbrella to shield her from the sun because of a sweater she had to wear in the Atlanta heat.

“At one point after a scene, Isla Fisher came up to me and said ‘I was worried about you in that sweater!’ They just really took good care of me.” she said.

Williams said the staff fed them like “kings and queens”, but her favorite part was meeting the stars of the movie and getting her picture taken with them.

“It was so exciting,” she said. Williams is also excited to see if her name will scroll in the credits after the movie and is planning on her whole family making a big event of going to see her on the big screen.

To catch Williams in her upcoming role, “Keeping Up with the Joneses” will be out in theaters April 1, 2016.
