Junior boys win second straight in District baseball

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County Junior Gold all-stars won their second-straight one-sided victory on Tuesday at Remington Park in Thomasville and will play for District III championship today.

And Gold could be playing Colquitt County Black for the championship.

Gold opened tournament play on Saturday with a 16-0 five-inning victory over Thomasville YMCA.

Three Colquitt County pitchers allowed just one hit and Carter Boatwright and Chance Sealy had big games at the plate.

Callon Kubiak started on teh mound and gave up the lone hit, walked three and struck out three in 2.1 innings.

Trace Eakins finished the third and pitched the fourth. He did not give up a hit or a walk and fanned two.

Boatwright pitched a scoreless fifth, striking out three. He did not issue a walk or surrender a hit

At the plate, Boatwright went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in.

Sealy was 3-for-4 and drove in four runs.

Turner Sircy, Reese Bledsoe and Henry Daniels each went 2-for-4.

Bledsoe, Boatwright, Daniels and Sealy each had a double and Jacob Walden drove in two runs.

Eakins was on base four times without an official at bat, walking once and being hit by a pitch three times.

Gold picked up where it left off on Tuesday, flogging Bainbridge 18-1 in three innings.

Eakins started on the mound and went the first inning, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out three.

Walden pitched the next two innings. He gave up a hit, walked two and struck out one Bainbridge batter.

Alex Bledsoe led the offense, going 3-for-3 and driving in a run.

Boatwright went 2-for-2; Sircy, Walden, Daniels and Eakins each went 2-for-3 and Reese Bledsoe went 2-for 4.

Daniels drove in three runs; Boatwright and Walden each drove in two; and Sircy, Eakins, Reese Bledsoe, Alex Bledsoe and Jaycee Harden each drove in one.

“Our guys are hitting it and our pitching has been pretty consistent,” coach Trey Eakins said.

Also on Monday in Thomasville, Colquitt County Black won its losers bracket game over Thomasville 4-3 and was scheduled to meet Bainbridge at 7 p.m. Monday in the final losers bracket game.

There was no word by press time from the Midget District Tournament being held in Americus.

Colquitt County Gold and Colquitt County Black each dropped its opener on Saturday and were scheduled to face off at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in a losers bracket game.

The District III Flea tournament was suspended at the Magnolia Sports Complex on Monday.

Colquitt County Gold and Grady County reached the final winners bracket game and Gold led 4-0 in the fourth inning when weather took the players from the field. They will continue their game at 6:30 tonight.

Also on Monday before weather curtailed play, Thomasville beat Crisp County and Sumter County eliminated Colquitt County Green in losers bracket games.

The Thomasville-Sumter County losers bracket game will continue at 5:30 p.m. today.
