MOULTRIE — Col. Hoyt Holland has long been known for his support of veterans’ causes. Most notably, he helped bring about the Veterans Bus that carries South Georgia veterans to the Veterans Administration hospital in Lake City, Fla.
Holland and his wife, Faye, have long collected donations from the community for the veterans who are patients at the hospital. The bus carries the donations along with the veterans every Thursday.
Due to health reasons, the Hollands are no longer able to fill that role, and it’s been handed over to Moultrian Faye Rowe.
The Hollands’ residence has been the collection point for such donations, Rowe said, but now the gifts need to be taken to the Museum of Colquitt County History, 500 Fourth Ave. S.E. Collections will be accepted during normal museum hours, which are the afternoons of Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Go to the back of the building and ring the doorbell, Rowe said.
Rowe had a list of things the hospital’s patients are in particular need of:
• Men’s light pajama bottoms.
• White T-shirts, socks and underwear.
• Lap throws.
• Personal hygiene items like spray deodorant, hand soap, shaving cream, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, Chap Stick, body powder, body lotion and men’s body wash.
• Black hair combs.
• Small Bibles.
• Gently used men’s clothing.
Anyone with questions can call Rowe at (29) 782-5404.
