A Doerun man who was slain Tuesday night in northwest Moultrie had been released from prison less than a month ago after serving two years in prison for burglary.

Eddie James Harvey was found dead behind the wheel of a 2000 Cadillac Deville in front of a 319 Second St. N.W. residence, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman said Wednesday.

Harvey, 51, of 755 Hwy. 270 is thought to be the owner of the car, which was removed and impounded as part of the investigation.

“Mr. Harvey was found dead at that address in a car (with a) pair of gunshot wounds,” said Steve Turner, special agent in charge of the GBI’s Thomasville office.

No arrests had been reported as of Wednesday.

An autopsy is scheduled for today, Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock said.

Turner said that the agency was not releasing additional details such as whether shell casings were found at the scene. The area where the shooting occurred is an area where drugs are prevalent, but it is not known whether that had any bearing on the shooting.

Harvey’s death is the third fatal shooting in the county for the year, all of which occurred inside the city of Moultrie.

Tony Harrison, 22, was shot on March 1 in what was described as a “shootout” at about 1:30 a.m. in the Sunset Plaza parking lot.

Kalvin Suggs, 603 First St. S.E., was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with Harrison’s death.

The body of 36-year-old Terrell Eugene Hawkins was found on the night of Jan. 6 inside a 618 Third Ave. S.E. residence. He was shot multiple times and a second victim, Alexis Davis, 26, was shot and survived.

Ponikarski “P.K.” Green, 32, who was accused of shooting Hawkins in a 2006 incident, has been charged with murder in Hawkins’ slaying and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting of Davis. Green and another man were charged in the earlier incident in which Hawkins was shot and Eddie Sanchez Martin was fatally wounded at Shy Manor Apartments in Northwest Moultrie, but prosecutors dropped charges against them because the key witness was himself found slain a little more than a year later.

Harvey was released from prison on parole on March 25, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. He had convictions in Colquitt County in two burglary cases, one of which occurred in February 2011 and the other in September 2012, and he served a little more than two years in a state prison before being released on parole. He also had two convictions in Mitchell County on cocaine possession charges that originated in 1987 and 1997, according to the Department of Corrections.
