MOULTRIE — Moultrie native Camila McLean Knowles, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, will be a special guest at the grand opening for Tallokas Pointe Apartment Homes at 9:30 a.m. Monday at 2001 Tallokas Pointe Road.
Knowles is a 1997 graduate of Colquitt County High School and was a competitive diver for Moss Farms Diving Tigers. She went on to dive for Harvard University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in history, with cum laude distinction.
She earned a law degree from Georgetown University and is a member of the State Bar of North Carolina.
She was a legislative aide to U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas before joining the staff of U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss. She eventually rose to become his chief of staff.
Following Chambliss’s retirement, Knowles was appointed commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs earlier this year by Gov. Nathan Deal.
Knowles’ parents, Mike and Camila McLean, still reside in Moultrie.
