MGs perform well at Edgewater meet

MOULTRIE — This past weekend the Moultrie MGs competed at the Edgewater Classic Meet in Panama City, Fla.

There were seven states — Texas, Michigan, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia and Florida — represented at the meet.

The MGs had a few gymnasts compete a new level and some gymnasts coming back from injuries.

“The girls did great and adjusted well with having two meets running at the same time,” said Coach Pat Murphy-Meier. “This was our 10th year attending this competition and we were thrilled to have Bob Swadel help out with the compulsory levels, in addition to the optional level.

“With Bria as our new team coach, he really put the judging into perspective to help girls, coaches and their parents understand the different judging that we will face in meets in this magnitude.”

The level 4 and 5 MGs were in the first session of the weekend.

The level 4 team placed fourth overall with a team score of 104.7, which is an average score of 8.725.

Jaiden Lane led the team for the day. She placed second on bars with a score of 8.475, which contributed to the team score. Lane also scored a 9.00 on floor which placed her third in her group. She finished the meet in fourth place with an all-around score of 34.425.

Gracie White was the second highest scoring level 4. She scored a record- breaking 9.5 on the floor exercise which made her the floor champion of the day. Her tremendous 9.5 also contributed to the team score and was her highest score of the day.

White also added an 8.475 on beam that contributed to the team score and placed her second in her group. She finished second in her group overall with a score of 34.275.

Tyliyah Smith was the vault champion in her group scoring a 9.075 that contributed to the teams score. She also scored a 9.3 on floor that finished her fourth in her group. Her 8.05 contributed to the team score on bars, placing her fourth. Smith finished fourth in the all-around with a score of 34.1.

Seaven Shorter was the runner-up on floor with a score of 9.125. She scored an 8.25 on bars that contributed to the team score. Shorter finished fifth in the all-around with a score of 33.975.

Addie Hamner contributed to the team score on vault with an 8.625. Her 8.625 was her personal best and placed her second in that event. Hamner finished seventh overall with an all-around of 33.80.

Hayley Hamm had a personal best scoring a 9.0, which was her highest score of the meet. She contributed to the team score on vault with an 8.625. Hamm finished seventh in the all-around with a score of 33.40.

Tayte Braswell was the runner-up on floor with a personal best score of 9.3. Her 9.3 also contributed to the teams score. Braswell finished eighth in the all-around with a score of 33.25.

 Marlie Daniels placed ninth in the all-around with a score of 32.05.

Brandalyn Fitz had a personal best on bars with a score of 8.0. Fitz finished eleventh in the all-around with a score of 31.025.

Level 5, Ava White, had a personal best on floor with a score of 8.35. White finished ninth all-around in her group.

Ivey Cooper placed third on vault with an 8.725. Cooper finished tenth all-around.

Mackenzie Yates competed the new optional level 6 for the first time later that Friday evening. She placed fifth on vault with a score of 9.05. She also placed fifth on beam with an 8.7. Yates finished twelfth in the all-around with a 33.20.  

“I was happy to see Mackenzie competing again after her back issues. We learned from watching new tips to improve her routines. She will soon be a strong competitor at this new level,” said coach Dawn Harvell.

The level 2s competed on Saturday morning. The team finished second behind Emerald City Gym, with a score of 106.15, which is an average score of 8.8.

Lathan Brown led her team for the day by contributing to the team score on three events. She placed first on bars with a score of 9.025 and second on beam with a score of 9.05. Her 8.275 on vault and 8.6 on beam landed her a second place finish on both events. Brown was the all-around champion with a score of 35.35.

Sara Cooper was the second highest scoring level 2. She placed second floor with a score of 9.05. Her 9.05 contributed to the team score, along with her 8.75 vault score, which landed her a fourth place finish. Cooper added a personal best on bars with a score of 8.05 and finished second all-around with a score of 34.80.

Emily Lampman placed third on 8.875, which contributed to the team score and was her highest score of the meet. She also placed first on beam with an 8.725. Lampman was the runner-up in the all-around with a score of 34.725.

Julianne Thompson placed fourth on bars with an 8.6. She also placed third on floor with an 8.6. Thompson finished fifth in the all-around with a score of 33.45.

Becca Clayton placed fifth on vault with an 8.55. Clayton finished sixth all-around with a score of 33.125.

Kenlee Dalton contributed to the team score on floor with an 8.95. She placed fifth on beam with an 8.675. Dalton finished ninth in her group with a 32.925.

Ashley Strange scored an 8.675 on floor and finished 11th in the all-around with a score of 32.725.

Ellie Ladson had a personal best on bars with an 8.725. Her 8.725 placed her third in her group and contributed to the team score. Ladson tied with Strange in the all-around with a score of 32.725.

Ansley Key contributed to the team score on vault with a score of 8.75. Her 8.75 was a personal best and her highest score of meet. Key finished seventh all-around with a score of 31.85.

The Level 9s competed in the Saturday evening session and placed first as a team with a score of 98.925, 12 points ahead of Radiant Sports Gymnastics from Michigan.

Sammie Phillips led the team by placing first on floor with a personal best of 9.325. Her 9.325 also contributed to the teams first place finish and was her highest score of the day. She added another personal best on vault with a score of 8.825. Phillips was the all-around champion in her group with a score of 33.70.

Evelyn Fagan was the second highest scoring level 9. She broke a personal record on vault with a score of 8.90, placing third in her group. She also received a personal best on floor scoring a 9.075, which was her highest score of the meet. Fagan finished third in her group with an all-around personal best score of 31.400.

Jordan Yates finished second on floor with a score of 9.125 and second on vault with a 9.05, both which were personal bests. Yates finished fifth in the all-around with a score of 31.325.

 Timia Fowler competed for first time in 3 years after suffering from a torn ACL injury twice. She contributed to the team score on bars, which placed her second, and finished third on beam with an 8.3. Fowler finished the meet ninth all-around.

Sterlyn Austin broke the MG level 10 floor record by scoring a 9.4, which made her the floor champion of the day. Her 9.4 was her highest score of the meet. She also broke a personal record on vault scoring a 9.075, which landed her a first place finish. Austin finished the meet first in her group with an all-around score of 33.275.

The level 3s competed in the last session for the MG’s on Sunday morning. The level 3’s placed first as a team with a score of 109.50, which is an average score of 9.125.

Ashlyn Faucett led her team to victory by contributing to the team’s score on every event. She was the only level 3 to do this. She placed first on beam with a score of 9.475, first on bars with a 9.0, and first on floor with a tremendous 9.5. Her 9.5 was a personal best and her highest score of the day. Faucett celebrated her birthday by becoming the all-around champion in her group with a personal best of 37.00.

 “Ashlyn was the top all around scorer on the entire meet, all age groups. What wonderful competitor and she is easy to coach.” said Blakely.

Nyla Thompson was the second highest scoring level 3. She broke a personal record on floor with a score of 9.15, which landed her a fourth place finish and contributed to the teams winning score. She also contributed on bars with an 8.925 and on beam with an 8.725. Thompson finished second in the all-around with a score of 35.95.

Caylee Harrison placed second on beam in her group with a score of 9.0. Her 9.0 contributed to the team score. She also placed second on floor with a score of 9.075, which was her highest score of the meet. Harrison finished third in her group with an all-around score of 35.50.

Anabele Gonzales contributed to the team score on vault with a score of 9.375. Her 9.375 placed her second in her group and was her highest score of the meet. She also placed third on bars with an 8.525 and fifth on floor with a 9.125. Gonzales finished fourth with an all-around score of 35.20.

Christina Cox placed third on vault with a 9.175, which was her highest score of the day. She also placed sixth on beam with a 9.05. Cox finished fourth in her group with an all-around score of 34.75.

Jacey Williams contributed to the team score on beam with a score of 8.725, which placed her third in her group. She also placed third on vault with a 9.1. Williams finished third in her group with a score of 34.525.

Tatum Salter broke a personal record on floor scoring a 9.2, which placed her second in her group. She was the vault champion in her group scoring a 9.4, which contributed to the team score. Salter finished seventh all-around with a score of 34.30.

Madison Faircloth broke a personal record on vault with a 9.3, which placed her first in her group. She also placed fourth bars with an 8.5. Faircloth placed seventh in the all-around with a score of 34.025.

Paige Burnette had a personal best on floor with an 8.9 which placed her second in her group. She finished in fourth place on vault with a 9.025, which was her highest score of the meet. Burnette placed seventh all-around scoring a 34.025.

Eva Kirbo placed fourth on vault with a 9.1 which was her highest score of the day and placed ninth all-around with a score of 33.75.

Ellery McBryde had a personal best on floor with a score of 8.7. She placed fifth on vault with a 9.15, which was her highest score of the meet. McBryde finished eighth all-around with a 33.625.

Brooklyn James scored an 8.925 on vault and finished 11th all-around with a 33.325.

Morgaine Leroux scored a 9.0 on vault and placed 11th all-around with a score of 32.80.

Jamiah Bentley competed level 3 for the first time Saturday. She placed fifth on vault with a 9.0 and ninth all-around with a 32.375.

Jaylee Williams placed sixth on vault with an 8.95 and fourth on beam with an 8.5. Williams finished 10th all-around with a 32.125.

Alexus Cravey scored an 8.7 on vault, which was her highest score of the day and finished 12th in her group with an all-around score of 31.45.

“I saw an overall improvement in floor routines at this meet, Blakely said. “All of the levels are looking sharper in their floor routine and it definitely showed in their score. They are showing it off in their dance, and their tumbling is tighter. Floor was exciting to watch at this meet.”

The Moultrie MGs levels 4-10s next competition will be the Auburn Classic in Auburn, Ala. The MGs will get to see the Georgia Gym Dogs take on the Auburn Tigers college meet on Friday evening and then compete themselves over the weekend.
