Mitchell leads middle school swimming team

MOULTRIE — Kaitlyn Mitchell won two individual events and was on a pair of first-place relay teams as the Colquitt County middle school swim team opened its season on Saturday against Lee County at the Darton College pool.
Mitchell won the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 59.73. Her first-place time in the 100-yard breaststroke was 1:16.63.
Mitchell, Emily Chapura, Caroline Harrell and Madison Montgomery turned in a 2:15.65 to win the 200-yard medley relay.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Destiny Avery, Katherine Barber, Madison Gonzales and Emily Flowers was fourth with a 2:50.77.
Taking second-place finishes for the Colquitt County middle schoolers were Destiny Avery, 50-yard freestyle; Madison Montgomery, 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke; Caroline Harrell, 100-yard freestyle; and Emily Chapura, 100-yard breaststroke.
Third-place finishes went to Lucas Rivera, 100-yard freestyle; Destiny Avery, 100-yard freestyle; and Caroline Harrell, 100-yard backstroke.
Placing fourth were David Baito, 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle; Sabrina Mesty, 50-yard freestyle; and Emily Chapura 100-yard backstroke.
Mesty also had a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle; Cate Tyler finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle; and Jaela Harrell was eighth in the 100-yard freestyle.
Also competing on Saturday were Jack Perry, Emily Rigsby, Alexandra Rico, Jaycee McMullen, Katherine Barber and Katelyn Croy.
