Police charge 5, seek 1 more in weekend assault

MOULTRIE — A Moultrie man injured in a weekend assault remained hospitalized on Thursday as police sought the last of six suspects who have been named in connection with the attack.

A Moultrie Police Department spokesman said that little information would be released until police have made the final arrest.

On Thursday police were seeking 23-year-old Dontorius Wright in connection with the case.

Over the previous day the department filed charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping and false imprisonment against the five who were taken into custody. They are: Bobby Ree Davis Jr., 51, and Anthony Jerome Nickerson, 33, both of 408 Third Ave. N.W.; Brad Bernard Yates, 45, 610 12th St. N.W.; Ashley Larue Clayton, 33; and Eric Nevil Fredrick, 40, 1420 Fifth Ave. S.E.

Davis, the first arrested at the scene on Sunday morning, also was charged with making false statements and concealment of facts, and Yates and Fredrick face probation violation charges.

Police who responded to a report of a man running down the street Sunday morning in Northwest Moultrie encountered the victim, Dana Martin, 37, Moultrie police Inv. Steven Colgan said Thursday.

Martin suffered “multiple injuries” but Colgan said that the department is not releasing details of the nature of those injuries. Colgan also declined to give a location for the attack or a timeline of events.

“He was taken and held against his will and assaulted by multiple individuals,” he said.

An initial department incident report said that officers were dispatched shortly before 6:15 a.m. to the 400 block of Third Avenue Northwest.

A spokesman at Doctors Hospital of Augusta said Thursday that Martin was in good condition.
