Georgia State Patrol officers were scattered around Moultrie and Colquitt County Friday night in a concentrated patrol that ended about 4 a.m. Saturday, said patrol Sgt. Jeff Culpepper of the Thomasville Post.

Those accused of driving under the influence include people who are charged with driving while impaired by marijuana and prescription drugs as well as alcohol, he said. Troopers have had training to detect when drivers are under the influence of substances other than beer, wine and liquor.

“We’re not just concentrating on drinking,” Culpepper said. “It’s prescription drug impairment, it’s marijuana, everything. It’s not just if you’re a stereotypical drunk driver anymore.”

Troopers from the post that covers Colquitt, Grady, Mitchell and Thomas counties were joined by those from other counties as part of the Troop G Wolfpack. The commander chooses a county for concentrated patrols, Culpepper said.

On Friday night the group made 19 arrests on charges of driving under the influence, four for possession of marijuana, one habitual violator and three suspended license, Culpepper said. Six citations were issued for child restraint violations.
