MOULTRIE — The Girl Scouts of Colquitt County are gearing up for an exciting and fun new year. The local unit is hosting its 4th Annual Recruitment and Registration Skate on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Freckles Skate Center in Moultrie.

The cost to skate is free for all current Girl Scouts members and all new girls who register on that day.

Girl Scouts is an organization that works to build character and self-esteem in girls while serving the community, according to an announcement of the event.

“In Girl Scouts, girls can find a safe place to grow and share new experiences, learn to relate to others, develop values, and positively contribute to society while also having a ton of fun,” the announcement said. “In the past, the Colquitt County troops have teamed up with local organizations such as the local VFW, Reed Bingham State Park, United Way, and Cub Scout Pack #466 to complete multiple projects and fun events.”

Membership in Girl Scouts is open to girls in kindergaten through 12th grade. Adults can also join as volunteers. The cost to join and become a member is $15 for both girls and adults. All volunteers must complete a background check, which is provided through the National Girl Scouts organization.
