Man faces battery charge after spanking child

An ex-wife’s report of bruising on her son’s hip and thigh resulted Monday in the arrest of her former husband who had spanked the child.
Nigel Bernard Ruffin, 33, 4 Quail Run, was charged with battery in the incident.
Police spoke with him after Christina Ruffin reported finding bruises on the boy and presented pictures of injuries.
When police spoke with Nigel Ruffin, he told them that he had spanked his son because he was playing in an unfinished part of his house.
In other arrests:
• Elie Williams, 56, 4065 Willard St., Coolidge, was charged Monday with driving with suspended license and child safety restraint violation.
• Zester Williams, 52, 4091 Willard St., Coolidge, was charged Monday with driving with suspended license.
• Randi Lynn Overstreet, 20, 1412 Fifth Ave. S.E., was charged Tuesday with no insurance and unsafe vehicle.
• Victor Dewayne Brown, 52, 15 Eighth Ave. N.W., was cited Tuesday on a charge of violating the city’s junk vehicles ordinance.
Norman Park Police
• Benjamin Wayne Martin, 38, 180 Bonaire Blvd., Miramar, Fla., was charged Monday with driving while license suspended and speeding.

Moultrie Police
• Keith Sinclair, 400 block 12th Avenue Southwest, reported Monday the theft of $520.
• Tammy Fries, 2700 block Sixth Street Southeast, reported Monday of property valued at $25 out of a refrigerator.
Sheriff’s Office
• Ernest Saunders, 3800 block Highway 111, reported the theft of a Craftsman three-drawer tool box and tools, Craftsman chain saw and gas can and gasoline with a total value of $540.
Thefts
• Opal Harrison, 2400 block Bay Rockyford Road, reported Monday the theft of an aluminum ladder of unknown value.
Entering auto
Moultrie Police
• Levay Layfield, 2700 block Sixth Street Southeast, reported Monday that someone entered a 2012 Nissan Altima that belongs to Marian Griffin.
Layfield also reported that someone entered a 2006 Jeep Liberty Sport owned by Darrell Griffin.
She told police she did not know whether or not anything had been stolen from the vehicles.
• Meilssa Pittman, first block Regency Village Drive, reported Monday the theft of a purse and contents with a total value of $60 out of a 1997 Ford Explorer.
• Jennell Thompson, 2600 block Seventh Street Southeast, reported Monday that a 2008 Jeep Liberty Sport was entered, but that nothing appeared to be missing.
Property damage
Moultrie Police
• Wayne Mathis, Moultrie, reported seeing a man break into a residence in the 600 block of Second Avenue Northwest that is next door to his residence.
• Pat Jordan, 600 block Third Street Southeast, reported Monday that someone tried to break into her residence through the front door of her residence, damaging the door.
• Shane Sims, 1500 block Fourth Avenue Southeast, reported Monday that a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser was damaged, possibly by a female acquaintance.
Police said the vehicle appeared to have been “keyed” on both sides and the hood.
Sheriff’s Department
• Belinda Gay, 300 block Country Circle, reported Monday that someone scratched a 1998 Cadillac Deville and also scratched her husband’s truck.
The Cadillac had a white scratch mark down both sides and across the trunk, sheriff’s reports said.
• Thomas Pate, 500 block Country Drive, reported Monday that a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe was scratched on both rear doors and front passenger door.
