The Kentucky State Police said that Jamie Plymel, 40, was killed at a rest stop in Simpson County.

He is the son of Moultrie Assistant Fire Chief Lamar Plymel.

The state police said in a Wednesday news release that Plymel, of Spring Hill, Tenn., was shot by a gunman while Plymel was sitting in a vehicle. Witnesses told investigators that the gunman, identified as James Roames, 39, of Hendersonville, Tenn., opened fire on Plymel’s vehicle at about 9:25 p.m.

Roames then shot himself, the news release said. He was taken to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville and later died. Plymel was pronounced dead at Franklin Medical Center.

Investigators do not believe that the men knew each other.

On July 9, two men who had lived in Moultrie were gunned down at a residence in Houston, Texas.

Billy Lamorris Robinson Jr., 36, and Lonnie Jenkins, 32, both died of gunshot wounds, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences in Houston said. Robinson was shot in the back and Jenkins was shot multiple times, including the neck, back, right arm and right leg.

Both deaths have been classified as homicides, the agency said.

Robinson is the son of Billy Robinson Sr., an employee at Colquitt County Correctional Institution.

Funeral services for Robinson are scheduled for noon Saturday at Greater Newton Grove Cathedral. Jenkins’ funeral is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at Union Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship.
