Mary Jacquelyn ‘Jackie’ Tyson Wooten

Mary Jacquelyn “Jackie” Tyson Wooten, 80, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, July 5, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Matt Marston officiating. Interment will follow in Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens.

Born March 9, 1934, in Eagle Lake Fla., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Lemuel Tyson Sr. and Kindness Mae McGregor Tyson. She was a 1952 graduate of Hillsborough County High School in Tampa, Fla., pursued a career in education, and received a bachelor’s of science degree from Tampa University. She received her master’s and specialist degree from Valdosta State University and a master’s degree in media science from the University of Georgia. She served as a librarian in the Hillsborough County School System until moving to Colquitt County in 1973, she served as a Title I reading teacher at Berlin Elementary and later at Stringfellow Elementary, retiring in 1996. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Samuel Wooten; sister, Norma Lee Tyson Massaro; brother, Joseph Lemuel Tyson Jr.;  sister-in-law, Harriette Anne Kelso.

Survivors include her son, James Franklin Laughter of Pavo; daughter, Cindy Robin Laughter Doss and husband Christopher of Marietta, Ga.; granddaughters, Mary Robin Rubeo-Laughter and Hope Eden Rubeo-Laughter both of Delhi, N.Y.; grandson, Parker Christopher Doss of Marietta, Ga.; brother, Glen Merlin Kelso Jr. of Clearwater, Fla.; sister-in-law, Marie Tyson of Daytona Beach Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service, on Saturday, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Cobb Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
