Alexander Joseph “Alex” Murphy, 20, died Sunday, June 8, 2014, in Moultrie.
A memorial service will be 5 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Cobb Funeral Chapel, with the Rev Ron Shiver officiating, assisted by Coach Rush Propst and Coach Kevin Giddens.
Past and present members and coaches of the Packer football team will serve as honorary escorts.
Born April 11, 1994, in Albany, he was the son of Christopher Carter and Dyann Meredith Carter. He was a 2012 graduate of Colquitt County High School and was a starting offensive lineman for the 2010-2011 Packer Football Team.
“Packer Football was his life”, his family remembered. He was known as “Murphy Diggity #64”.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jesse Buster Hutchinson and Dessie Carter.
Survivors, in addition to his parents of Moultrie, include one sister, Lauren Brooke Carter and special friend Jacob Comer of Moultrie; his grandmother, Sandra Smith Hutchinson of Moultrie; his grandfather, Benny Carter of Moultrie; two special aunts, Missy Hutchinson and special friend Tony Carnes and Beth Hutchinson, all of Moultrie; one half-sister, Joanna Wiard of Moultrie; one half-brother, Jake Murphy of Moultrie; other family members and special friends.
The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service on Thursday at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
