Aspiring filmmakers will have the opportunity to learn the basics of film and video production during a two-week camp this summer at Thomas University.

 

The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily June 16-27 on TU’s Main Campus. During the sessions, participants will view and analyze films from different genres, explore career opportunities, and work with digital cameras and Final Cut Pro/iMovie to produce their own short films. The completed short films will be presented in a Student Film Festival at the completion of the camp. Participants will have access to shared digital cameras, camcorders and tripods.

 

The Filmmaking Summer Camp is open to rising ninth through 12th graders. All levels of expertise are welcome. The cost is $400 per student. Participants are required to bring at least a 4 GB flash drive and their lunch.

 

The camp will be taught by Stephanie Whitfield, a filmmaker and award-winning photographer from Tallahassee who also teaches at Thomas University. Whitfield has worked internationally, producing training videos for early childhood educators in Indonesia, Japan and Singapore. She is Apple-certified in Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro. Whitfield has taught filmmaking and editing at the middle, high school and college levels.
