Mother Easter to hold spring revival

Mother Easter Baptist Church is having its Spring Revival May 5-7, 7 p.m. nightly. The guest revivalist all three nights will be the Rev. Clarence Moore, pastor of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Augusta, Ga.

On Monday, May 5, the Rev. Lee Brown and the congregation of St. Mary’s Freewill Baptist Church will be in charge of the order of service. On Tuesday, May 6, the Rev. Freddie Castle and the congregation of Mother Easter Baptist church will be in charge of the order of service; and on Wednesday, May 7, the Rev. Alfred Jones and the congregation of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church will culminate the revival.

Moore is a native of Greenville, Miss. In 1977, he answered the call to preach the Gospel. In Sept. 1977, he was licensed to preach at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Greenville, Miss., and was ordained to preach in April 1983, at the Antioch Baptist Church North in Atlanta, Ga.

He came to Good Shepherd in 1983 as the assistant pastor to the Rev. Essie Mae McIntyre. In 1986, Moore became only the second pastor in the history of Good Shepherd Baptist Church when McIntyre retired.

During his tenure as pastor of Good Shepherd, the church has experienced many positive changes and tremendous growth, he said. Membership has increased by more than 3,000. Many ministries and services have been established to respond to the holistic needs of the membership and the community. Under his leadership, the church instituted the preaching/teaching format during revival, the Mini Congress/Revival, Saturday morning Bible study, children’s church, and an accredited Bible academy.

Good Shepherd is active in local, state, and national Christian growth activities. Moore’s past and current affiliations include secretary, Augusta Baptist Ministers’ Conference (1984-1986); chairman, budget committee, General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia (1984-2004); 1st vice president of the 10th District (1987-1994) and president (1994-2004); clergy staff, Augusta University Hospital Executive Board (1989-1991); assistant treasurer, State Congress of Christian Education (1989-2003); treasurer, State Congress of Christian Education (2003-2004); chairman, family committee, Local Coordination Council (1990-995); president, Augusta Baptist Ministers’ Conference (1992-1994); co-chairman, Augustans Together (1992-1996); president, General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc. (2004-present); and appointed vice president, Southern Region of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. (presently).

Moore is married to the former Patricia Sparrow, and they have one son, Clarence Joshua.
