Helen Mathews Beard

Helen Mathews Beard, 79, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at her home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, April 19, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens. Casketbearers will be Curtis Bynum, Tim Clark, Kirby Clark, Joseph Mathews, Sid Collins and Bruce Owen.

Born Oct. 28, 1934, in Pavo, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Daniel Mathews and Mildred Lee Mathews. She was a secretary with the accounting firm of James L. Kirk II, C.P.A., for more than 50 years, and was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cecil Beard Jr.

Survivors include one son, David M. Beard and wife Jo Beth of Buford, Ga.; one granddaughter, Abby Beard of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Dan Mathews and wife Claudra of Pavo; a sister-in-law, Betty Beard of Houston, Texas; a niece, Amanda Arnold and husband Jim of Woodstock, Ga.; a nephew, Joseph Mathews of Pavo; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., today, April 18, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church.

Cobb Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
