The always popular PCA-sanctioned Gee Haw Whoa Back Rodeo will be one of the many events scheduled during ABAC’s Homecoming Week March 31-April 5. The rodeo will be held April 4-5 at 7:30 p.m. at the ABAC Rodeo Arena. Tickets for the general public are $10 at the gate and $5 for ABAC students and children ages 6-13. Children 5 and under will be admitted free of charge.

From prospective students visiting the campus on Stallion Day to the Folklife Festival at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village, alumni and friends will help Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College celebrate its week-long 2014 Homecoming on March 31-April 5.

This year’s Homecoming festivities include the Alumni Awards and Athletics Hall of Fame Dinner, Stallion Day, the Alumni Cookout, the third annual Run for the Nurses, the Golden Alumni Luncheon, and the always-popular Gee Haw Whoa Back Rodeo. All event tickets except for the rodeo must be purchased in advance through the Office of College Advancement at (229) 391-4895. Rodeo tickets will be sold in advance and at the gate on the two days of the event.

The celebration begins on March 31 with a Senior Class Cookout at the Alumni House at 7 p.m. On April 1, the Fillies’ softball team will host a double-header against East Georgia College at 2 and 4 p.m., and the First Tuesday Concert at the Chapel of All Faiths will be held at 7 p.m.

Mr. ABAC 2014 will be crowned at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium on April 2. The ABAC baseball team goes up against South Georgia College at 6 p.m. at Stallion Field on April 3. Also at 6 p.m., the Student/Alumni Softball Game will be held at Fillies Field. Those who would like to participate in the game can sign up at www.abac.edu/alumni.

On April 4, the Golden Alumni Luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Grand Lobby of ABAC Lakeside. The $20 tickets to the luncheon must be purchased in advance. At 4 p.m., a memorial service will take place in the Chapel of All Faiths in honor of ABAC alumni and friends who have passed away. The Alumni Awards and Athletics Hall of Fame Dinner will be held in Gressette Gym at 6 p.m. Advance tickets must be purchased for this event at a cost of $30 per person.

Events on April 4 will conclude with the PCA-sanctioned preliminary round of the Gee Haw Whoa Back Rodeo at 7:30 p.m. at the ABAC Arena. The final round will be held on April 5. The rodeo will include saddle bronco riding, bareback riding, bull riding, team roping, calf roping, steer wrestling, break-away roping, and barrel racing. Tickets for the general public are $10 at the gate and $5 for ABAC students and children ages 6-13. Children five and under will be admitted free of charge.

The third annual Run for the Nurses will kick off the activities on April 5 at the Red Hill Athletic Center at 7:30 a.m. Those interested in participating in this event can go to www.active.com or visit www.abac.edu/academics/schools/nursing/ for a printable registration form through April 1.     

Prospective students will mingle with alumni during the college’s Stallion Day, an all-day event that gives high school students the opportunity to experience college life. Stallion Day will run from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at various locations across campus. Prospective students can register for Stallion Day at www.abac.edu/stalliondays.

The Folklife Festival will take place from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Museum featuring demonstrations, food, and fun. Highlights of the festival include the American Legacy Quilt Show, the GMA barn quilt unveiling, the “Her World in Quilts: Sue Turnquist” exhibit, the season opener of the Wiregrass Farmers Market, and the annual Flower Show.

On the main campus on April 5, the Alumni Cookout for alumni and prospective students attending Stallion Day will be held at noon near Gressette Gym. Prospective students can register for the cookout as part of Stallion Day. Alumni must purchase advance tickets to the cookout for $10.

Tours of the campus will take place at 1:30, 2, and 2:30 p.m. or visitors can watch the ABAC Stallions play South Georgia College in a 1 p.m. double-header at Stallion Field. The Homecoming Parade begins at 4 p.m., followed by individual school events located throughout the campus.

The Homecoming festivities will come to an end with the finals of the Gee Haw Whoa Back rodeo at 7:30 p.m. on April 5 at the ABAC Arena.
