Annual Miss Afro Pageant to be held Saturday

The annual Miss Afro Scholarship Pageant will be held at 7 p.m., on Saturday, March 1, at the Colquitt County Arts Center. This event is sponsored by Friendship Baptist Church.
Competing for the Miss Afro title this year are Nykeria Walker, 14, and Symphony Ragland, 15.
Walker is the daughter of Shonta Walker and Lonnie Walker Jr. She is a ninth grade student at C.A. Gray Junior High School. She is a cheerleader and a member of FCCLA and FCA. She also serves as student body vice president. She attends Greater Newton Grove Cathedral, where she is a praise dancer and assists with the youth department. Upon graduation, she plans to attend Florida State University and study forensics.
Ragland is the daughter of Kenya Lawton and Robert Ragland III. She is a tenth grade student at Colquitt County High School. She attends Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she sings in the junior and senior choirs. Her hobbies include running, singing, drawing and reading. Upon graduation, she plans to attend college and further her education.
Anazhia Daniels, 10, will be competing for Junior Miss Afro. She is the daughter of Shiavita Slaughter and is a fourth grade student at Sunset Elementary School. She attends New Beginning Church. She enjoys singing and playing outdoor sports.
Competing for the Little Miss Afro title will be Tayla BreNaye French, 4, and Janiya Miller, 4.
French is the daughter of MaRonda S. French, granddaughter of Dianne Sloan and Ronnie French, and great-granddaughter of Mary Sloan and the late Susie M. and Willie J. French. She attends Friendship Baptist Church. She enjoys skating, “playing teacher” and working on the computer.
Miller is the daughter of Andrea Daniels and Timothy Miller, and the granddaughter of Gloria Daniels, Earl Nunn, Benjamin Bennett and Sharon McBride. She attends The Pointe Church. She enjoys ballet and tap dancing.
