Rev. Winfred Tyler to speak at black history program

The Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Rev. Alfred Jones, will be celebrating their Annual Black History Program on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. The theme is “There Is Hope.”

The speaker for the occasion is the Rev. Winfred Tyler of the Summerhill Baptist Church in Pelham, Ga. He is a native of San Antonio, Texas. He now resides in Albany, Ga., with his wife, Barbara Tyler. They are the proud parents of seven children.

Tyler has been in the ministry for more 30 years. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1979. He then enlisted in the United States Army, where he worked as a logistical supply clerk for 13 years. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1992. He then went to work with the United States Postal Service for 14 years.

He is currently the full-time pastor of Summerhill Baptist Church in Pelham, where he is actively involved in many community and civic activities including, sponsoring a clothes give-away drive, volunteering at the Senior Citizens Center, being a member of the Homeless Shelter Initiative Committee of Mitchell County, and he is also a member of the Albany Ministerial Alliance. He is a renowned singer and psalmist.

Tyler is currently pursuing a degree in criminal justice at Everest University.

The Live Oak Baptist Church Young Adult Choir will render musical selections and members of community churches will also be on program.
