Regional Technology Fair sending several to state

- Christian Marsh Pierce was named the Most Outstanding Technology Club Adviser for 2013-2014.
Colquitt County High School played host to the 8th Annual Colquitt County Schools Regional Technology Fair Jan. 25. This year’s fair was the biggest yet, with 400 students registered from Colquitt County Schools and Thomasville City Schools.
The competition included standard categories like robotics, digital photography, and animated graphics but also offered two new categories this year: mobile app design and digital game design. These new categories require students to build a program from the ground up, designing every aspect that the user sees.
Just over 100 volunteers came together to help make this event a success, according to a press release from the Colquitt County School System.
“The most instrumental of this staff was certainly the technology club advisors from each school,” the press release said. “We had several veteran advisors involved and welcome Mrs. Donna Martinez from GEAR and Mr. Tom Campbell from Willie J. Williams Middle School.”
Christan Marsh Pierce was named the Most Outstanding Technology Club Advisor for the 2013-2014 school year. Other volunteers for the day included teachers from most of the schools involved, community members, Central Office employees, and CCHS ROTC.
Following C. A. Gray’s show choir performance, directed by Beth Miller, the awards ceremony cranked up with medals being given to first, second, and third place winners in each category and division. Student names were also entered into a drawing for an iPad, Droid tablet, laptop, and many other technology items donated by technology vendors like CNS, Bytespeed, Ace, and Southern Computer Warehouse.
The first place winners from this regional competition have the opportunity to go to the state level of the Georgia Educational Technology Fair to be held on March 8 at Middle College of Georgia‘s Macon campus.
