Home repair stores discover phony money

Home repair stores in Moultrie turned over phony money on Tuesday to police after two women made purchases at one of them and had the fake bills rejected at a machine at the second.

Lowes, 602 Veterans Parkway N., reported at 6:10 p.m. that earlier in the day two women bought merchandise with bills that later were found to be counterfeit.

About an hour later police were called to Home Depot, where the machine in the self-service had collected counterfeit money that two women tried to use.

The machine recognized that the money was no good and did not allow them to make the transaction.

The only description given of the two was that they were white females.

Arrests

Moultrie Police

• Timothy Vanshon Thornton, 39, 438 Dunn Road, was charged Wednesday wtih burglary and theft by taking.

• Edgar A. Guzman, 25, 1975 Funston-Sigsbee Road, was charged Dec. 31 with driving under the influence, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and speeding.

• Flemmie Johnson, 61, 811 First Ave. N.W., was charged Tuesday with disorderly conduct.

Sheriff’s Office

• Dontavious Vantodo Collins, 23, 927 Fifth Ave. S.W., was charged Tuesday with failure to appear.

• Jy’Kuerious Deonzae Henry, 17, 1644 Hwy. 33 S., was charged Tuesday with simple assault.

• David Allen Faulk, 44, 842 U.S. Hwy. 319 S. Lot 10, was charged Tuesday with probation violation.

Thefts

Moultrie Police

• Walmart, 641 Veterans Parkway S., reported Monday that a male shoplifter took merchandise and escaped from employees who chased him outside the store.

The value of the stolen merchandise was not known.

Sheriff’s Office

• Kakenisa Daniels, 1300 block U.S. Highway 319 North, Norman Park, reported Monday the theft of a 20-inch Next Chaos freestyle bicycle and a large black Beach Cruiser that were Christmas presents to her children.

Daniels told police that the bicycles had been chained to her front porch and were valued at a total of $235.

• Ricky Smith, 2100 block Highway 37 East, reported Tuesday the theft of a white tandem bicycle valued at $850.

Smith told police that a male acquaintance had borrowed the bicycle and it was on the man’s front porch.

When he later noticed the bicycle was not on the porch, he called the man who told him he had not moved the bicycle

Battery

Sheriff’s Office

• Carolyn Edwards, 200 block Church Street, Ellenton, reported Monday that a female juvenile relative hit her in the chest and neck with her hands and fist.

Edwards told police that she had spanked the girl because she had disobeyed her just prior to the attack.

Property damage

Moultrie Police

• Aundra Williams, 45, Moultrie, reported Tuesday that a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck parked in the 1300 block of West Central Avenue was struck by another vehicle.

The car had moderate damage to passenger side and doors, police said. The value of the damage was not known.

• Tyler Shaw, 19, Norman Park, reported Tuesday that while sitting in his 2004 Ford LGT truck at a parking lot in the 600 block of Veterans Parkway South the driver of a Ford F-250 struck the mirror of his truck.

Shaw told police that he followed the other truck but lost it at Tallokas Road.

Fraud

Moultrie Police

• Joann Evans, 77, Moultrie, reported Tuesday that her bank card number was used to make 10 transactions totaling $843 in Lakeland, Fla.

Evans told police that she had the card with her at all times during the times the card number was used.

Sheriff’s Office

• Performance Food Group, 211 Alton Hall Road, Cairo, reported Tuesday receiving two back checks of $7,851 and $300.

• Tonja Horne, 200 block J.C. Stanfill Lane, reported Tuesday that her debit card account was used to make three transactions of $200 each in Brandon, Fla., and the card was not out of her possession at the time the fraudulent transactions were made.

• Shirley Thomas, 2600 block Highway 37 West, reported that she received a text message that purportedly told her that her credit card had been compromised.

When Thomas called that number a recording asked for her 16-number credit card number, she told police.

She suspected it was a scam and called 911.

• Joey McMurphy, 2000 block Son Norman Road, Norman Park, reported Tuesday a break-in at his residence.

McMurphy told police that someone entered his home through the rear door and that the contents were not in the same condition as when he had left. He had a possible suspect in mind but did not want to reveal the person’s identity to police.
