In one incident, Murphy’s Express, 505 Veterans Parkway, reported Sunday that a woman walked out of the store with a carton of Newport cigarettes valued at $50.

An employee told police that a white man and a black woman came in the store at about 11:35 and asked for the cigarettes. The man gave the employee a $20 bill and the woman grabbed the carton and walked out of the store.

The man said he needed to get more money from his truck, and he did not return after he walked outside.
