Divers excel in Thanksgiving meet

Moss Farms coach Ed Goodman took 10 of his young divers to the South Carolina Thanksgiving Invitational at the Blatt Physical Education Center in Columbia, S.C., last Saturday and was pleased with their performances.

The AAU-sanctioned event allowed males and females to compete in Olympic Rings and FINA events. Some 100 participated in the meet

In the 9-and-under girls FINA event, Ruth Ann McCranie finished first on the 1-meter springboard with a 127.00; first on 3-meter with a 135.40; and third on platform.

Carolyne Turner was second on 1-meter with a 118.8 and second on 3-meter with 12465.

In the 11-and-under event, Abi White was first on 1-meter with a 192.00; was second on 3-meter; and was second on tower with a 141.65.

Jordan Avery was first on tower with a 150.05; was sixth on 1-meter with a 150.95; and was third on 3-meter.

Mauri Lee Leroux was fifth on 1-meter with a 152.85 and was seventh on 3-meter.

In the 12-13 girls FINA event, Emily Wolfson was first on 1-meter with a 278.30 and also was first on tower. She was second on 3-meter with a 241.40.

In the 14-15 girls FINA event, Kelliann Howell was first on tower with a 217.30; was eighth on 1-meter with a 278.45; and was eighth on 3-meter with a 266.70.

Bo Bridges competed in the 9-and-under Ring 3 event and was first on 1-meter with a 113.10. In the Shield level, he was second on 3-meter with a 101.00.

Jewelia Chambers competed in the Ring 2 1-meter event and was second with a 91.40. In the Shield 3-meter event she was second with a 93.50.

Kate Jimmerson competed in the 9-and-under Shield 1-meter event and was first with an 86.0.

Goodman said he will take his novice and Junior Olympic divers to the Christmas Invitational in Orlando on Dec. 7. Also on the schedule is the Georgia All-Star meet, which will be held in January, and the GC Diving Invitational in Dallas, Texas, on Feb. 14-16.
