Moultrian to host prayer event in Albany

The Sisters in the Spirit Ministries, Inc. (S.I.S.), is an organization for Christian women directed by Pamela Strong Simmons, Moultrie native. Simmons will host “WOW), a weekend of women in prayer on Nov. 2, 2013, at the Sports Complex of the Greater Second Mount Olive Baptist Church, located at 805 East Broad Street in Albany, Ga. The theme is “Give Ear, O Lord, Unto My Prayer”. The weekend will unite women purposely with the mission of praying.
The prayer service lineup includes devotional service led by psalmists Patricia Kendrix of Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ in Moultrie and Evangelist Mille Brooks of First African Baptist Church of Doerun. A lesson on prayer will be taught by the Rev. Barbara Davis, pastor of the Bright Star Baptist Church of Blakely, Ga., and Evangelist Wilma Hadley of the Friendship Baptist Church of Moultrie will present the scripture. To conclude, Prayer Warrior, Fannie Kendrix of the Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ of Moultrie will lead the prayer warriors’ march.
Simmons, the weekend convener, resides in Winston-Salem, N.C., where she is a member of the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. At Galilee, she directs the prayer ministry, assists the pastor with teaching Bible study, teaches the adult Sunday school class and leads a monthly women’s Bible study. A Christian author, her first book is titled, “The Power of Women Prayer Warriors”; she is completing a second book, “Favor in the Enemies Camp.”
Simmons earned a bachelor’ degree in Speech and theatre at Albany Sate University, master’s degree in English at Northwestern State University of Louisiana and her doctorate from Walden University. She is employed at Winston-Salem State University as associate professor of English, director of the writing in the major program and director of the Writing Center. She is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Simmons is married to Sherman Simmons and is the daughter of Mary Strong and Luke Strong Jr. of Moultrie.
The Weekend of Women in Prayer is open to all women. Breakfast and registration will be hosted from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. The $20 registration fee includes a gift bag. The schedule begins Nov. 1, when women will pray at their home between 6 a.m. and noon. On Nov. 2, women will pray together at the Greater Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church Sports Complex at 805 East Board Street in Albany and end the day with the mighty prayer warriors’ march. On Nov. 3, the final event will conclude with a free prayer teleconference phone call from 6 to 7 p.m.
