- Visitors from at least three states came out last year to peruse items and maybe find a bargain in the 100-Mile Peanut Pickin’ Yard Sale.
The 100-Mile Peanut Pickin’ Yard Sale may or may not be bigger and better than ever, but it’s unquestionably longer.

The addition of Unadilla and Vienna to the route, which formerly stretched from Cordele through Sylvester and Moultrie to Quitman, has led to a name change in the third year of the annual event. Organizers added a plus sign to make the name “The 100+ Mile Peanut Pickin’ Yard Sale.”
The sale will be held 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.
The route will follow U.S. Highway 41 from Unadilla to Vienna to Cordele, according to Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce Vice President for Marketing Terry Shuler. From Cordele it will follow Highway 33 through Sylvester, loop through downtown Moultrie and follow 133 through Berlin and Highway 333 to Quitman.
“The 100+ Mile Peanut Pickin’ Yard Sale is a tourism effort to promote the region and is an opportunity to showcase these towns to visitors who may purchase a home or start a business,” Shuler said. “Vendors will be featuring everything from antiques, to local Georgia grown/Georgia made items and yard sale items.”
Yard sale sites will range from large multi-organization sites to individual sites along the route. “Official Vendor” signs will identify each official 100+ Mile Peanut Pickin’ Yard Sale site.
In downtown Moultrie, the action will be around the Courthouse Square, where the city has already registered more than 50 vendors, according to Amy Johnson, Moultrie Main Street director. That’s more response than last year’s event had at this point.

“We look for this to be a big crowd,” Johnson said. “We’ve had people come in from out of town, actually.”
Johnson said downtown merchants will be open, and some will feature sidewalk sales in conjunction with the Downtown Bazaar.
The Downtown Bazaar/ Farmer’s Market and information booth will be set up on the Courthouse Square in Moultrie, and ConAgra Foods/Peter Pan Peanut Butter on behalf of the Georgia Peanut Festival will be serving grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in Sylvester in front of the Chamber of Commerce, Shuler said.
“The bargain shopping is the main attraction, but visitors are also able to enjoy exploring charming towns and communities, the scenic countryside, famous historic sites, delicious regional cuisine and welcoming Southern hospitality,” she said. “This is a great opportunity to promote Southwest Georgia to the bargain hunters that will be visiting the area.”
Shuler said she’s already given local restaurants the “heads-up” because two years ago some ran out of food or had too few staff on duty for the crowds that came in.
