Moultrie City Council on Tuesday approved a tax increase, but went out of its way to point out how small it will be.
The millage rate approved Tuesday is 10.968 mills — an increase of 0.06 mills over last year.
“The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately 40 cents,” Mayor Bill McIntosh said, reading from the agenda of a public hearing on the issue, “and the proposed tax increase for a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $300,000 is approximately $7.68.”
No one spoke at the public hearing prior to Tuesday’s city council meeting. Another public hearing was held that morning as well.
In other action, the council:
• Approved a special use permit for a professional office for the treatment of drug and alcohol rehabilitation at 755 Sixth Ave. S.E.
• Approved the rezoning of 4.45 acres at 2909 First Ave. S.E. from a split-zoning of R-2 (Two Family Residential) and C-3R (Commercial District, Restricted) to C-3 (Commercial District). Wayne Frier Homes currently uses the lot to store mobile homes, according to City Planning Director Daniel Parrish.
• Awarded a bid for two 2014 CNS bucket trucks to low bidder Altec of Elizabethtown, Ky., in the total amount of $195,286, to be purchased under a lease agreement.
