Gary Bonvillian, President of Thomas University, this week debuted his blog on Huffington Post’s College Section. The blog will be released approximately once a month and focus on issues in higher education.

 

According to its website, the Huffington Post receives 39 million unique visitors every month. Bonvillian was first invited to write the blog over a year ago but declined due to other commitments. When the invitation came a second time, he decided the time was right.

 

“This is a great forum to put the work of Thomas University in the public’s eye on a national stage,” he said. “This is also another way for Thomas University to be a part of advancing the developing needs of higher education.”

 

Bonvillian compared the opportunity to blog with the Huffington Post to Thomas University’s involvement in the Yes We Must Coalition, a national group of 33 not-for-profit colleges and universities committed to increasing the number of underserved students who receive degrees. Thomas University is a founding member of the Yes We Must, and Bonvillian is a founding officer of the organization.

 

The coalition and the Huffington Post blogs position Thomas University to participate on issues of national importance in higher education.

 

Bonvillian’s first blog entry, entitled “The Flat World of Education,” is based on an article that he and two others wrote a few years ago that was published in the Journal of Management Policy and Practice. The topic focuses on U.S. colleges and universities launching and sustaining successful programs abroad and particularly in the Peoples Republic of China.

Thomas University, established in 1950, is a private not-for-profit university of about 1,125 students in Thomasville, Ga. TU awards associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees using traditional classroom settings and online delivery.
