At about 8:20 a.m. Saturday, officers were sent to Lewis Temple, 900 Third St. N.W. A bystander waved down one of the officers, who found a man wearing orange shorts that matched the description given at the intersection of Fourth Street and Ninth Avenue Northwest.

The man, later identified as Derrick McBride, had a pair of pliers in one of his back pockets, police said. The man, who identified himself as Derrick Adams, also had a pair of folding pliers and drill bits in the other back pocket.

Police round a screwdriver in his front pocket, reports said.

When police examined the air conditioner they found screws had been removed from the outer cover. A shoe print next to the air conditioner matched the shoes McBride was wearing, police said.
