Moultrie woman charged with credit card theft

A woman accused of stealing and using a credit card was arrested Thursday after a deputy stopped the car she was driving, based upon a despcription they were given of her and the vehicle.

Shannon Knighton, 38, 193 Hidden Acres, was charged with two counts of financial transaction card fraud and two counts of forgery in connection with using the stolen card.

At about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, a deputy spotted a 2005 Jeep Liberty and noted that the woman driving it matched Knighton’s description, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office reports said. He stopped the Jeep on Sylvester Highway.

Sheriff’s investigators came to the scene and confirmed it was Knighton, at which time she was arrested.

At the time of the traffic stop, Knighton had blood on her clothes and hands, sheriff’s reports said.

In other arrests:

• William Basulto, 20, 650 Willow Drive; Freddie Lee Smithwick, 23, and Tyler Lee Smithwick, 21, both of 3760 Stagecoach Road, Meigs, were each charged Wednesday with theft by taking and theft by deception.

The three were stopped by a deputy investigating a suspicious truck report in which wire was found in the truck. They initially were released but after further investigation law enforcement spoke with them again.

At that time, they admitted stealing the wire, which they had sold at a recycling business, sheriff’s Inv. Chris Robinson said.

• Jim Matthew Speight, 1117 Lonnie Grimsley Road, Adel, was charged Thursday with contempt of court.

• Antonio Reshawn King, 4128 Old Doerun Road, was charged Thursday with probation violation.

Moultrie Police

• Ricky Bernard Yates, 47, 2684 Seventh St. S.E. Apt. A, was charged Thursday with driving under the influence, no driver’s license and defective tag light.

• Jimmy Bernard Johnson, 27, 617 Burke St. Apt. B, Albany, was charged Friday with suspended driver’s license and defective tail light.

• Benjamin Travis Randall, 34, 709 Third Ave., was charged Thursday with probation violation.

Thefts

Sheriff’s Office

• Joyce Woodard, 3800 block U.S. Hwy. 319 N., N.P., reported Thursday the theft of a 12-gauge shotgun, fire safe, silver charm bracelet, four knives and a baby ring.

• Kathy Rister, 600 block Bear Creek Road, reported Thursday that a male acquaintance stole a 50-inch JVC flat screen television valued at $1,200 from her residence.

• Norma Jean Porter, 1500 block Highway 111, reported Thursday that a debit card she had earlier reported stolen had been used by a male acquaintance who made charges of $1,780.

• Jerome McBride, 500 block First Avenue Northwest, reported Thursday a burglary in which a 42-inch flat screen television and 24-pack boxes of Mountain Dew and Pepsi were taken.

The stolen property was valued at $314.

• Janieve Moxley, 1300 block Fairview Drive, reported Thursday the theft of a commercial wet vacuum value at $50 from the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue.

A resident who lives next door heard a a dog barking at about 11:30 a.m. and a loud noise.

A concrete block was thrown through a window to gain entry, sheriff’s reports said. While going through the window the burglar apparently got cut as blood spots were found on the floor and blood was smeared on a refrigerator.

• Christopher Pilgrim, 800 block Gibbs Road, reported Thursday the theft of a Canon digital camera, 42-inch television, 32-inch HDTV-DVD player and a gold necklace with a diamond cross.

The stolen property was valued at $1,604.

Moultrie Police

• Scott Wilburn, Suffolk, Va., reported Thursday the theft of a diamond wedding band and engagement ring, iPod with a Coast Guard Emblem and $100.

Wilburn told police that the property was stolen from his daughter, Peggy Wilburn, while she was visiting Moultrie.

• Arthur Morris, Moultrie, reported that a female acquaintance stole credit and debit cards and had used them to make transactions.

Nora Morris showed police a photo taken at an ATM showing the woman making a transaction on the couple’s account.

• Julie Reynolds, Moultrie, reported Thursday the theft of property valued at $2,150 from a storage unit in the 2500 block of Fifth Street Southeast.

Reynolds told police that she was alerted to the break-in at the unit she was renting by a letter from the manager at the storage business.

• Kendra Lyles, Charlotte, N.C., reported Thursday that a check sent to her in the amount of $1,486 was cashed by someone else at a Moultrie convenience store.
